new friend

It is the week of midterms (already!) for the junior high and senior high kids. (Here in Japan, they get done with the school year in Feb/March.) With midterm exams on the schedule, I didn't have to go to my classes for couple of days and I only have one class for tomorrow! Yay for Fridays! :) So, one of the teachers in my department who is just 2 years old than me will take the other TA Hannah and I to the bank and the immigration office in the morning. :)

Hannah who graduated from St. Bens with me, works in the same school also. It has been very fun and I'm glad that our personalities clicked pretty well right away. Hannah and Ryan (SJU grad) came to Okinawa around the end of August, exactly one month before I did. So it was nice that when I first got here, she was able to show me around and brought me to her favorite malls and restaurants. It definitely took a long time for me, Hannah and the school to know when I could arrive in Okinawa with a legitimate work visa..., but now that we found each other to go on adventures together, this year will be very fun and enjoyable.

Hannah works in the junior high English department, while I work in the PR office and help with senior high school students. My office is on the 1st floor and hers is on the 2nd floor. The whole school has 6th floors and it's quite big because the junior high and senior high school buildings are connected.

Anyways, the big spacious office she works in has a lot more teachers there and she is surrounded by fun and nice English/Math teachers. It's pretty much the main staff room so sometimes they will have meetings there.

Fun fact: instead of signing in somewhere to the network when we arrive the school, or getting time card stamped by a machine...I sign in with my own wooden Inkan stamp (印鑑) in that same staff room.

My office the PR department has a quieter atmosphere, but I am slowly realizing that most of teachers are very funny and enjoy each others company very much. The PR office takes care of all the exchange and visiting groups that go out to America, Taiwan, Canada..etc...and helps preparing cultural exchange activities for the students. A group of German student group came last week, and there will be a another group of Vietnamese students coming in around November.

dec 2009

09' winter

about 20 days later, it will be the year of 2010.
who would believe i could get this far.....

i am finishing my degree for communication and art, getting an internship with the photographer i heard about when i was a freshman, went to japan for a semester, got my own camera, done a personal exhibit, met amazing people...even attended a wedding of my sister's!

who would thought i will be typing about this in my dorm room in minnesota, united states of america...a place could get so cold whenever i get into a car i would shiver until the car warms up a bit...

10 years ago, in 2000... i was 11, just about to finish my 6th grade,
i was prepared to say goodbye (to people i thought was the world to me),
and i was in the process of finding a new place to start over with.

starting everything over with.

new middle school friends, new teachers, new routes for school,
new library, new supermarket to go to....

it took me a long time to get used to that,
(and to really understand how the bus routes work. haha)

now, i am graduating in a semester.
and i just said good luck to my high school friend on her finals
(she is graduating next year also, but in November)

who would know we can get this far? ;)

next (after finals + paper) :
new year's resolution and 2009 recap (perhaps in photos?) !

eric

eric asked, "what's your name again?"
eric forgot about my name, but he said, "you live with...becky, right?"

this adorable child was hanging out with me when we were waiting for the grown ups to be done. he was in love with my camera, so i let him took a picture or two with the holga. i can't wait to see how did they turn out.

wedding days: bachelorette partay

i think i am allowed to post pictures from the party, am i?
it was a small gathering (a little quieter night) for friends and family to be with our becky. becky's roommate came too, lana played the guitar for us and made up songs about them. we chitchat a little when becky was able to sit down and laugh.

katherine s. and i discussed about how we were little bit weirded out by the thought of becky getting married the next day. we knew everyone was happy for her, but still needed sometime to adapt the fact that the whole thing is actually happening. while our becky was just so happy to be married, she was so ready!

wedding days: photo booth!

{travis + becky in the photo booth}

there were many things to be taken care before the big day,
decorations for the dinner, center pieces... before heading back to uncle Renn's
to meet with everyone, we stopped by the bank, couple shops, and a k-mart.
{this reminded me another picture of flying Travis}
{ i want them and blow it up for my room :D}

here is our Mary being so happy with all the photo booth pictures we took that day.
i believe we took about 6 together, 4 of us. it was pure joy.

next, the family dinner!

1 more day to go!

I always think when my friends poses for me {no matter if they want to pose or pose for my sake} they are spoiling me.

I CAN't wait to photograph my favorite people.

Leaving tomorrow(to my friend's place), fly on thursday!

last weekend

dear friend,

you have been so nice to me.
and i am grateful for you.

you call me your best friend today.

lisa

p.s. i will post pictures up as soon as this weekend comes.
chapel walk this friday!

{look forward to pictures from club picnic, dr. bennet's gathering,
common ground reception, arboretum and some daily little things.}

there are reasons why i love film

My friend Jaselyn who went to Japan with me decided to buy a disposal camera after our conversation on the bus for a reunion/gathering that night.

She took pictures and recorded details about the gathering, like the good old times in Tokyo. Jase handed me the disposal camera and told me to make art when I had my camera in my lap.

and I took pictures of my friends' feet and the carpet.
It's not art. But that was what I saw.

Don't you love the black corners of this picture?

I hope you enjoy it too.
